Can’t you feel it?
Can’t you sense it creeping round the outer edges of your thoughts?
It’s there, if you’ll stop long enough to notice.
It’s hiding in the shadows of your conscious mind.
You feel it sometimes in the shiver of your spine and the goosebumps that appear without reason.
Your body knows what your mind doesn’t want to.
As you turn your eyes away from a horrible thing, so your mind turns away from the terrible thought.
Even now as you read this your heart is fluttering madly in your chest, like a bird attempting escape.
Sooner or later you will see it clearly.
But by then it will already be too late.
