Writings :: Found

There she stood.

A still form in a sea of movement, of conversations, laughter and gesticulating hands.

Fingertips worrying at the hems of her clothes, she pulled them this way and that, aware of nothing but her appearance.

If you looked for her she would be found at the outside of things, having slowly made her way to the outer edges of gatherings. Creeping back into the shadows and out of the light, until she almost wasn’t there at all.

In time she became almost invisible to herself, no longer able to see who she was.

Her brown eyes would wander skyward, more and more she found she was dreaming of flying away…

One night as she slept, a man dressed in light appeared and looked on her with love and kindness.
He took her hand and brought her before a mirror.

What she noticed most about her reflection was not the flaws in her figure or the things she would change, but the woman inside who shone with radiance.

She understood what he had shown her.

When He spoke her name and called her’daughter’, she finally realised who she was.
In that moment, she became whole and complete.

If you look at her now, you’ll find her reluctantly near the centre of things, though a little shy and awkward sometimes.

Her hands are too busy helping others to pull her at her clothes and worry over her appearance, but when she smiles her face shines.

When she occasionally allows herself to look back over her shoulder, she realises that none of it mattered,  not really…

What she found is far more precious than jewels, and more costly than gold.

Beauty fades, but this is everlasting…
