Carrie Baker – The Growth Collective

Hello,

You know those feelings you get when you’re sitting in the reception area waiting for a job interview? That’s me, right now. I am sitting here starting something I have talked about doing for so long.

I don’t know how many times I have planned to start a blog (many!) and every time I came to sit down and begin, I would freeze.
I would back away from the computer in fear. Fear of not being good enough, fear of no one reading my blog, fear of failing or fear being ridiculed. But also a little fear of “What if I succeed, and “Can I commit to making it work?”
I would come out with excuses like, “The computer hates me, look how long it takes to just log me on!” And then there is the old “Seriously this website is far too complicated and I really don’t have time for this right now.”
But really it was just me, being afraid of starting something I have wanted to do for so long – writing.

But how scary can it be?? People start blogs everyday right?? (She asks with a worried smile on her face)

Beginnings are hard.
Starting something new is overwhelming.

So I am going to feel the fear and do it anyway!

I am striding out into the great unknown, taking the leap of faith, grabbing my dream with both hands and I am doing this!

So when people ask me what I do, I’m not going to mutter something about ‘just being a mum’ (but we’re never just mum’s anyway – Right?). No! I’m going to proudly (but quietly) say that I am a writer, who has the privilege of working from home with the help of a little person who keeps me company (while covering the floor in tiny piece of play-doh, which keeps him happy and gives me time to write!).

I will tell them that I am currently working on my (life’s work) novel, while also writing a regular blog.
And I will smile serenely, while they look at me in awe and admiration.
(A girl can dream right?!)
