Capturing the moment…

This morning was the perfect winters morning…..one of those you want to write about, to catch a snapshot of it on paper.

As I got out of the car, the air was so crisp my breath steamed in front of my face, pink cheeked from the cold. The sky was a clear pale blue the grass, tipped in white.

As I walked, the golden rays of sunlight caught the frost and everything glittered……

I dug my chin further into my scarf, and gloved hands deeper into my pockets, as the chill began to seep through the layers. I wanted to linger there, in the peaceful stillness……

Sounds almost picturesque doesn’t it?

The reality of that scene was a lot different, though the elements described were present.

I would have loved to have been able to stand there in peace and really soak it all in, to stop time and cement it in my memory. I like to store away ‘scenes’ to add into my writing at some point.

But instead, I was standing by the car, waiting for my two young sons to put their coats/hats/scarves on before getting out.

I did have a few moments to myself, to enjoy the bracing air while they were wrestling with their coats.

Then walking towards school with one lagging behind and calling to the other to not run off ahead, all the while telling them to stop trying to slip their shoes over the icy path……

I will try to capture the moments when I can, while catching children before they slip…….

When was the last time you stopped to breathe in a beautiful moment? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear about it!

Thanks for stopping by,

Carrie xxx
